Plans for Giant Celebration Next Saturday Night

Plans outline a wartime public event in Georgetown with troops bands and a dive bombing attack to mark the War Services Drive. Canvassers submit final reports Friday. special committee under Mr LeRoy Dale seeks large donations. An 9 pm start at the Canadian Peak of Commerce features a mock attack with searchlights and anti aircraft fire.

Children Send Books to Navy School

Children gathered books from homes and sent them to naval quarters in Torofito as part of a school effort to support the Navy. The books were then distributed eastward to aid soldiers and sailors.

Georgetown Herald reports British War Victims fund events

The Georgetown Herald lists multiple social events and fundraisers in March and April to aid British War Victims. Gowman Truax Dies in Toronto

Gowman Truax dies in Toronto on Sunday April 6 at the Toronto General Hospital. A Georgetown native in his early thirties, he was once pastor’s son and attended the Public School there. Survived by wife Margaret E. McCullock, he had lived in Hamilton after retirement. funeral was held at A. W. Miles Funeral Chapel and interment at Westmount Cemetery, Hamilton.

Norval Junior Farmers and Institute Hold March Meeting

The Norval Junior Farmers and Institute met at the Lyons home. Charlotte Wilson chaired the Institute session and members recited the ode and Lord's Prayer. A flower roll call, Red Cross collection, and a plan to send 5 dollars for wool were noted. A concert dance was arranged for April in Norval.

Fifteen Church Members Join King's Uniforms

The Herald notes William Gillman of Glen Williams district born 185? celebrated his 88th birthday at Glenview Farm with family. He served on Islington council, is Conservative, and active in politics. Lions Club guest Walter McRaye spoke on The British Navy tracing naval history from Alfred the Great to Henry VIII and Phoenicians. Club voted 900 to Herald War Victims Fund and 50 each to Canadian War Services and Red Cross.

Women's Institute Meeting in Georgetown Branch Holds April Session

The Georgetown Branch of the Women's Institute met at Mrs. O. Freyre's home on Wednesday April 2 with president Mrs. Wylie presiding. Minutes from economy Groups 3 and 4 reported a successful euchre in Legion rooms and funds raised for the treasurer. Members donated teyette articles to replace recently issued items. Mrs. W F Sinclair reviewed current events. A nominating committee of Mrs. G, Mrs. Howard Kentner and Mrs. F. Cole was named to seek officers for 1941 and 1942. A report was due at the May meeting. Dr J H Bateman attended.
