Red Cross campaign in Georgetown district raises over the $2255 goal after a March blitz. A local vote backed meters in principle with costs to be studied, while talks with Esquesing Township on road maintenance and a future decision on meter types continued.
Mr. Oliver Whitmee of town visits Windsor for a week with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice E. Mander of 20 Tyers Avenue return from a two week Florida motor trip. Mrs. Maurice Goudeketting of 8 Prince Charles Drive has been a patient at Guelph General Hospital for four weeks. Mrs. Arthur Reinhardt and children Mary David and Mark of Orillia visit her parents at 35 Mountainview Rd. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baskerville and daughter Diana of Fort Erie visit his mother at 39 Maple Ave. W. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Williamson of Silvercreek return from a Florida motor trip. his mother Mrs. W. E. Williamson of Burlington accompanies them. Miss Lois Gardiner of Brantford was a weekend guest of Claire Bradley at 33 Victoria Street. Lois is a fashion design classmate at Ryerson Institute. Directors of Esquesing Agricultural Society join members of the ladies division at a business and social evening at Mrs. Wilfrid Bird’s home. Mrs. John D. Kelly of Albert Street left Malton Airport to fly to Hamilton Bermuda for a two week stay. she lived there as a girl when her father commanded the Royal Canadian Regiment stationed there. Mrs. W. G. O. Thompson, widow of the late Archdeacon W. G. O. Thompson, returns to Georgetown to reside with Mrs. L. W. Dann at William Street. she has been living in St. Catharines.
The engagement is announced of Laura Douglas daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Frank Douglas of Clifford Ontario to Grant Wright son of Mr and Mrs William S Wright RR 1 Georgetown The marriage will take place Saturday April 20 at twelve thirty in the afternoon at the home of Harvey Douglas RR Clifford Ontario

Kenneth Y. Dick the Liberal candidate for Halton announced Alex S. Cooke of Milton has been appointed Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Halton replacing his late father P. W. Cooke. Cooke, fresh from Ottawa, previously assisted as election clerk and notes Halton's division into 103 loan polling divisions for the next federal election. In 1953 Halton cast 20,600 votes, about 71 percent of eligible electors.
Halton Co-Operative Supplies announces a one million dollar sales target for the year. The 20 year old group has tripled sales in seven years to reach a large volume. Dent William Hume chairs the dinner. The coop has 550 members and serves Georgetown and Milton. J E Whitelock spoke on farm prices. Three directors, Clarence Ford Denney Charles and A G Hunter were re-elected for three year terms. Continuing officers include President Hume John McDonald VP W J Lawrence secretary Fred Nurse David Lawson William Mahon J S Wilson. Howard Coles became Georgetown manager Morley Lundquist Milton manager.
Thieves breached the Exchange House taking a cash register and $250, leaving $36 recovered later. The raid began on the second storey via the fire escape and involved eight sleeping hotel guests. Police traced deposit slips from the building to the CNR siding where a chrome piece and the register were found. Nearby rain kept the floor littered with papers as Constables Trafford and Scott investigated.
The Georgetown Business and Professional Women's Club hosted its first International Night on March 25 at Mrs. Art Scott's Maple Avenue home with guests from Brampton Guelph and Kitchener. The candlelight ceremony for 26 countries accompanied by 80 national flags featured Miss Joan Wilson and Miss Isabel Dobson.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Cook of 39 Water Street celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on March 21 with congratulations flowers and gifts. Married in Bennington Vermont they moved to town when Mr. Cook joined the Latch Needle Co later Creelman and Harley Kay Marsland factory area. He ran a milk route and served as public school caretaker before retiring from Harley Kay Marsland.
Hosts Mr and Mrs R B Kirkwood organized a surprise April 1 party for the golden wedding couple Mr and Mrs W S Wright. After euchre a generous lunch was served. Prizes went to Mrs J H Allen and William Kirkwood. A trilight floor lamp and coffee percolator were given. An address praised the couple and friendship, signed by local families.
Police investigate the theft of a fiberglass boat hull from Gilmore Boat Co. on John Street. The hull measures 13 feet by 22 inches by 56 inches and is valued at $200. Corporal Jim Billborrow is handling the case.
Brampton men take over the former Ray Bowers Motor Sales to run as Herkes Raycroft Motors. John Scotty Herkes from Edinburgh and Bill Raycroft of Burlington bring decades in service and sales. Norman Brown joins as mechanic as plans for an early Georgetown opening speed ahead.

Georgetown’s lone sweepstakes ticket holder at Aintree in England last weekend, Tom McNamara of Malton, will collect about 461 pounds though his horse Goosander finished out of the money. McNamara, a security guard, stood to win roughly $140,000 on the Goosander ticket. Sun Due won the race among 36 runners.
Mrs Clifford Reid hosted a Sunday dinner in honor of her husband with relatives from Niagara-on-the-Lake visiting. Prizes were won by Mrs Joe Allan and Mr William Kirkwood at euchre after a meal and cards. Dr Reid announces an office setup and will receive patients.
