The Fair Board approves a park livestock hall to be aluminum and used for sor age space year round. Council guaranteed the site two years ago. A fundraising drive will continue to finish the project. A joint meeting of ladies and men discussed prize lists and a euchre event in Stewarttown hall.
A Friday euchre party sponsored by the Oddfellows drew good attendance in the Hall. Prizes added to the fun with an $8 kitty bag next week. High scores went to Mrs Wilfrid Hunter and E. B. Tyers. Door prize to Mrs. Lloyd Boyd. mystery prize to Mrs. Peter Brydon.
Regular morning worship at St John s featured a sermon on church membership vows and Romans chapter twelve. The Young Worshippers League was inaugurated with Anita Dawson and Sally MacDonald among soloists and A MacLaren at the piano.
Raiders Intermediate hockey players were hosted at a chicken dinner Monday at the home of Dr and Mrs Clifford Reids. Vince Mountford and Alf Sutton provided entertainment while Bob Lane presented Mrs Reid with flowers from the team.
Directors discussed aims of the newly formed Chamber of Commerce at a meeting in the Municipal Building. An energetic membership drive was planned and groups were assigned duties with residents urged to aid advertising the town to attract industry and new homeowners. Attending were secretary Joseph Gibbons, treasurer Fred Chipman, and chairmen Wilf Hillis Charlies Wray Jack Malcolm Jack Gunning Alex Maclaren James Linton and Art Scott.
Teresa Tracey later Mrs Leonard Harvey died in Hamilton on Saturday after forty seven years as a resident. She was the sole surviving Tracey child of Michael and (late) Mrs Tracey. Her husband had died earlier. She leaves two daughters Mrs George Mavor and Mrs W Schofield and two grandchildren.
Glendon Spike Scott starts training to become a Presbyterian minister and serve a mission field in Cranberry Portage and Le Pas Manitoba. The community extends sympathy to Mrs Newton and Mrs Ivens on the death of their sister Mrs Charles Gale. Interment was at Brantford. Mr and Mrs Sanford attended the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs Thomas Lane at Mount Dennis. A C Bourne returned from Trinity College for the weekend. Art Ford and children of Acton visited the barns. Communion service scheduled for Sunday.
Welsh of the RCAF Calgary piloted a Tiger Moth from Camp Barden to Kitchener and landed in a field behind Harrison's Garage after realizing he could not reach Guelph. The plane hit a ditch and overturned without injuries. damage was limited to a broken propeller. The aircraft belonged to Garfe's Flying Service, Kitchener. P C Bud Buckwald investigated the accident.
The Explorers Girls Club held its annual Easter tea at St Johns Memorial Hall. Girls aged 9 to 12 wore uniforms and yellow aprons under supervisors Mrs Vern McCumber Mrs Frank Whitmee and Mrs Jack Watson. A supper of scalloped potatoes cold meat fruit salad rolls and cookies was served. tables featured centerpieces of pansies pussy willows and fern. A large audience attended.
Doug Ward hosted a chicken supper at his home for Glen Hornets hockey club members on Saturday. Guests included Freddy Currie Gary Scott John Brown Reg Crosby Wayne Norton Dennis Hancock and others. Also noted are visits by U of A student Bob Addy and several local residents sharing weekend hospitality.
Master mechanic A. H. Feller retires from Provincial Paper Ltd at month end. Eugene Pomeroy to succeed him. Fellow mill employees present Mr. Feller with a parting gift on Monday, John D. Kelly delivering the presentation.
Elaine Silver of Toronto visited Pauline Watson on Charles Street. Funeral in Hamilton for Mrs. Leonard Harvey attended by Mrs. Forgrave and her daughter. Armand Swackhamer and son Jimmy visited with Swackhamer family in town. Reeve family hosted by Charles Gilbert and family with Toronto guests including Neil and Margo Bell Company from Montreal. Aileen Schrag visited California. J A Riddle’s San Diego stay noted. Jeanette MacDougall celebrated a birthday with classmates. Stockford and Watts families hosted visitors on Guelph Street. Donny Maveal and Linda Mina celebrated birthdays with friends and relatives. Kathrine Williams marked a fourth birthday with party. Cleave and R. Davidson attended the Dominion Progressive Conservative Association convention in Ottawa.
Esquesing Hall in Stewarttown packed for the International Harvester family party organized by Ken McMillan. Farmers from Hornby to Hillsburgh attended for movies music and dancing with Rhythm Rubes and Star-Berden's Orchestra, door prizes awarded to locals and neighbors.
Georgetown Council approved construction of a new high school at Georgetown and another at Acton, and authorized adding a gym at Milton. The five North Halton District municipalities were to decide in the coming days, with other councils expected to follow.
Sybil Bennett Q C was elected president of the Dominion Ladies Organization and spoke at the Ottawa national convention as a chief speaker ahead of the next federal election.
Local fun show Shooting Stars will play two nights at the Legion Hall this week sponsored by Legion W.A. A baby popularity contest runs with child photos in Henry's Cut Rate Store window and cash donations sought in decorated jars across stores. Prizes go to top contributors.
Georgetown Baldarettes beat Aurora 1 0 to take a 1 0 lead in the best of three series. A second win next week would send Georgetown to the Ontario finals against East York.
Dominion Stores will shut its locked branch this weekend after many years of operation in the town. The closure ends a long local retail presence and affects employees and shoppers who used the outlet.
Mrs Charles Gale died suddenly at her Limehouse home after heart asthma. Born in Fayette Iowa she was the eldest daughter of Thomas and Mary Ivens. Her husband predeceased her. She leaves two sisters two nieces and several relatives. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery Brantford with pallbearers and friends from Brantford Barrie Toronto Windsor Glen Williams Stewartown and Limehouse in attendance.
Provincial Paper employees and wives danced in the Rose Room at the annual Canteen Fund party. About 300 attended as the Modern Aires played. Door prize went to Ann Wylie. spot prizes awarded to Mr and Mrs George Cooper, Del Wallace, Shirley Wright, Norman Marchment, and others with varied gifts.
A town rally at Stewart Town Hall closed the season with a mix of business and entertainment. A fire marshal representative discussed a proposed fire area scheme to protect farmers by town brigades. James Kelly of Winnipeg Manitoba visited last week with his parents.
