The late Arthur Thomas Allen of the village of Orono who had been in failing health for some months ; passed away in Oshawa General j Hospital June 16th, 1952 after a |very serious operation age 68 years.Arthur was bom .in Enterprise about five miles north of Orono. Son of the late William and Mary Allen.He was united in marriage June 8, 1905 to Margaret Moffatt. He ran a steam shovel for some years helping build the C.N.R. through Orono, Pickering, Eden Mills, Guelph, Hamilton and Water down. In 1914 he bought a Threshing Machine and Silo Filler and threshed, for the farmers a good many years, tie and the late C. J. Thorton ran a saw mill at the south end of the village. Later he bought out Mr. Thorton and ran it himself until he sold out the machinery to Mr. Roy Thompson of Leskard. Arthur was the first man to buy and operate a Trucking business in and around Orono in 1930.He was still in the business at trie time of his death. The funeral was held from his late residence on June 18th, 1952, with Rev. John Kitchenconducting the service. One of his favourite hymns, Rock of Ages, Was sung by Mr. Wm. Mitchell with Mr. Neil Stewart at the piano.The many beautiful floral tributes paid respect and love from family friends and neighbours in which the departed was held.The pallbearers were Messrs O. W. * Rolph, Wm. Armstrong, Percy Lunn, Percy Patton, Archie Lunn, Harry: Mercer. Interment was made in Orono Cemetery.He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Margaret who was at his bedside most of the time and three sons Harold M., A. Ernest and Wm. VanCe also two daughters, Lillian Kathleen (Mrs. Harold Hooey), Valeta Margaret (Mrs. Milton Green) of Orono; two .sisters,, Mrs, John Moffatt, Enterprise, Mrs. Gordon Boulder, Oshawa, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren, 3
