COMPOSER-CONDUCTOR, DESPONDENT, A SUICIDEBy the Associated Press.HARTFORD, Conn., December 38.—The hand that held the baton lor orchestras in Europe and America has turned upon Christian Kriens.The 54-year-old composer-con-duc tor-violinist shot himself at his home last night. Police attributed his suicide to despondency after the lailure of a radio station to renew his contract as musical director and to his subsequent inability to make a satisfactory musical connection in New York.Kriens. a native of Dresden, Germany, came to America in 1901 and. among other engagements, conductedFrench opera at New Orleans andplayed with the first violin choirs of leading orchestras In Philadelphia end New York.
