CARTERDIES IN CALIFORNIAiChicago, 111., Aug, 1?—Word lxas been received of the death of Orria IC Carter, former associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Illinois, late Wednesday at his home in Glandale, Cat, a suburb of Los Angeles,Judge Carter, who was 74 years Old, wrote more than 1000 decisions in his eighteen years on the Supreme Court bench from 1905 to 1524, when he retired voluntarily. He had been in failing health since a paralytic, stroke soon after his retirement.A native son of New York State, he came to Illinois as a boy, attended Wheaton College and was graduated In 1877. Before entering polities he taught fcchool In Grundy County. Prom 1884 to 1888 he was State's Attorney of Grundy County.After two years as attorney for the sanitary district of Chicago, Carter was elected County Judge of Cook County in 1894. In 1900 he was a candidate for the Republican nomination as Governor.He leaves hia widow and two children.
