rMissionary, 88, Taken By DeathFuneral services were held at graveside in Forest Lawn Memorial Park July 27 for Miss Abbie G. Chapin, 88, retired missionary to China, who died in Glendale July 24.She was a sister of Theodore Chapin of California street and leaves two other brothers. Rev. Edward D. Chapin of Glendale and Rev. Dwight C. Chapin of Asheville, N.C.Miss Chapin was born in Tungchou, China, to Rev. and Mrs. Lyman Dwight Chapin, who sailed hround the Horn in 1863 to do missionary work among the Chinese.She was graduated from USCin 1891 and returned to China, where she was caring for sickand wounded soldiers during the Boxer Rebellion. She was the first American to have conferred upon her the Royal Red Cross medal by King Edward of England.
