Electors vote next Saturday for the Northern Province seat in the Levisa tive Council. Mr E A Norton of Shepparton stands in the U A P interest. Voting is compulsory.
In a broadcast from 38R Mr Tuckett, retiring Northern Province member, urged electors to back his candidacy in the June 17 election. He highlighted 12 years in the Legislative Council, his Country party role, and defended reforms including the Upper House bill, hire-purchase, and insurance clauses. He cited tax relief, road and hospital spending, and government stability as reasons to support his broad provincial focus.
Mr Norton outlines policy priorities for rural prosperity and decentralisation while defending the retention of the Legislative Council. He argues for improved education funding, veterans’ support, and selective taxation relief, urging voters to elect a nonpartisan representative to serve the State and Empire.
Mr Stewart spoke to Numurkah listeners about his lifelong ties to the National and UAP parties and recalled moves in Melbourne that formed the National party. He said the Legislative Council is a review chamber free from lower-house party fury and should uphold Britain’s constitutional bulwark amid European unrest.
