The Katanga No. 120 creamery, opened by Fresh Food and Frozen Storage Company over 55 years ago, lists its first manager Mr Henry Dunning and later successors C Eadyveun Jack Cumming C Verge and J Cuthbert. The piece recalls community figures, poultry breeding, deliveries by teenage drivers and humorous incidents at the creamery including a dog in a bag and fowls left on a cart axle.
The article traces the Katunga cream depot and related depots at Numurkah Wanghau and Cobram from the 1900s to 1918. It outlines the rise of home separators ending creameries, depot management by I B Brooks and later Angus and Jovs Cumming, and the 1908 incorporation of Holdensen Nielsen Fresh Food Pty Ltd which acquired earlier firms and continued depot operations. Depots delivered cream by rail to Melbourne and milk products to Numurkah butter factory after 1918.
