Repatriation Note Highlights Sustenance Decline and Training Uptake
Senator Millen reports that of 114600 men returned to the Commonwealth by February only 5900 received sustenance while awaiting work. 750 cases were sustenance dependent due to influenza and unemployment, with 6500 awaiting vocational training. Influenza and alcohol related cases are largely written off, leaving 3500 in the ongoing burden of the Employment Section. The note contrasts with Britain’s five month 414.3 million unemployment donation amid demobilisation and troop disturbances.
