First Wheat Payment Plan Outlined by Australian Wheat Board
The Australian Wheat Board proposes a 25 6d per bushel new crop payment to start January 14 with certificates in three parts. The first is exchangeable for 28 6d on delivery or January 4, the second 4 6d on April 20, and the third's value depends on harvest prices. The Commonwealth guarantees at least 4% profit after charges. The board favors privacy in selling details to protect competitive positions, while preparing a full statement when feasible. The board also moves to remove the surplus charge on bran and pollard exports, retains the premium on sharks and other human consumption wheat products, and approves marine insurance rates for the coming year, noting substantial savings. Consideration is given to price allowances for B grade wheat transactions and to electing all wheat representatives by wheat growers. A future local price hike of 0.95 per bushel for local consumption is set to start July 1, 1921.
