A parish vestry held a meeting on church rates. Amendments failed, a motion to adjourn was defeated 34 to 36, a poll then carried 177 to 79. The church party mobilized to secure votes while dissenters largely followed their consciences. The Anti-rate Association plans vigorous work next year with canvassing.
