Dissenters Rally Over Maynooth Endowment Threat

An Anti-State-Church Association meeting defends the voluntary principle against state endowments. Speakers including Mr Hoxtonp of St Ives and Mr D R Stephens of Newport urge MPs to back religious equality, oppose Maynooth funding, and press for parliamentary reform to empower nonconformists. Kent Dissenters Unite for Anti State Church Drive

In Kent during April and early May public meetings in Tonbridge Brenchley Lammerhurst and Stablehurst drew large attentive audiences. Mr Forster explained the constitution and objects of the Anti state church Association and urged support. Baptists and Independents pledged active effort to end the state church system and enroll new members in the counties parishes registrars have been appointed for enrolment.

The Grant to Maynooth in Anti Maynooth Meeting Report

A central anti Maynooth committee meeting led by Sir Culling Eardley Smith approved petitions to the Lords and Commons, prepared addresses for Ireland, and discussed a Protestant union. It also noted a looming three year limit proposal and published petitions showing large public opposition to the grant.
