Correspondence Over Jamaica Bishops Salaries Questioned
Archdeacon Campbell and Rev E Nuttall of Kingston met Colonial Secretary Earl Kimberley to discuss Jamaica bishop salaries. The late Jamaica bishop spent years in England with a deputy in charge earning 1,600 pounds from an 8,000 pound church salary, raising questions about continued use of the Consolidated Fund. A 1868 act aimed to phase out this pay, but Jamaica Episcopalians seek to preserve a 3,000 pound claim amid ongoing controversy.
