Vega's perilous voyage and frozen in ice near Kuljaschin Bay
The Vega reached the east coast of Kuljaschin Bay by September 27 but on the night of the 27th to 28th strong ice formed, freezing the vessel in half a mile from shore. Three days later the crew could walk to shore as the ice thickened, with hopes of release on July 1 and arrival in Japan around August 15. The Kukashin Bay people, the Tsuktsen, are friendly and helpful to the voyagers.

Humorous Snippets Spark News from The Boston Courier
A string of light vignettes includes jests about New York police, a tramp’s dam, Lord Beaconsfield and Mr Clare Read, a violinist tale with Joachim, clergyman and carrier irritations in Scotland, and a postal card prank. The piece satirizes civility, weather, and post office proprieties with brisk anecdotes.
