Imperial Parliament Considers Occasional Sermons Bill
In the Commons on Wednesday Mr Temple moved the second reading of a bill to reform church law without changing doctrine or repealing statutes. It would grant bishops broader liberty to license occasional or exceptional preachers, aligning with practices in Scotland and America while preserving bishopial control over regular preaching. The bill hinges on whether licensing may extend to non ordained preachers, a question the bishop has avoided by licensing only those in holy orders.
