Handel festival delights with grand chorus and solo stars
A vast chorus under Michael Costa impressed with disciplined attack and refined balance though sopranos lagged at times. Soloists Sims Reeves and Santley drew storms of applause. Madames Trebelli Bettini and Lemmens Sherrington shone in demanding arias. The festival showcased Handel’s classics alongside lesser works with strong orchestral support and strong organizational effort by Major Flood Page and Mr. Wilkinson.
