Were tithes voluntary grants to the editor
Correspondent argues tithes could not arise from voluntary grants. Before 1836 the right was a tenth of produce in perpetuity, not a tenth of land or rent, implying origin in an Act of Parliament or custom. Private origin is refuted as producing no mechanism to convey produce in perpetuity. Summers signs his battle line from 39 Lonsdale Square on January 17, 1874.
