Birthday reflections on Palmerston Gladstone and Disraeli
Last Sunday the Premier completed his sixty third year and yesterday the ex Premier entered on his sixty eighth year. Born in Liverpool December 29 1809 and London December 31 1805. Many happy returns to both statesmen who have adorned political and literary life. They are still in their prime and the world cannot ill afford to lose either. Lord Palmerston was Premier long after their age and age is a comparative measure. A veteran statesman joked about being past it at eighty. Neither Gladstone nor Disraeli show time’s decay. Hymnary a Book of Church Song reviewed by the Atheneum with sharp condensed critique. This is an age of condensing and the critique is unusually pithy.
