Rev Picton on The National Religion at Southampton
The Rev J Allanson Picton of London spoke at Philharmonic Hall on disestablishment and disendowment of the Church of England. He argued for removing state support and control, favoring a national religion free from state ties, and criticized ritualism and privileged church property. The meeting, chaired by W Lankester with other clergy, urged principle over party in reform.
