A Bristol gathering applauded the claim that church and state should separate to ensure religious freedom. Speakers, including Rev H Rapav and Mr Kingsley, urged investigation into church revenues and condemned past tyrannies.
A public meeting of the Anti state church Association met in Worcester on January 30 in the Guildhall. J Kingsley, a London deputation, and local dissenters attended as the Mayor reluctantly allowed the hall. The chair, Thomas Waters, spoke on separating church and state and freeing the church to pursue its mission.
A crowded gathering heard J J Ernaster reflect on six years of the Anti-State-Church Association amid praise for progress against old objections. Speakers including Mr Kingsley and Rev J Hoswir urged religious liberty while thanks were given to organizers and the mayor for use of the hall.
A January 31 public meeting at Cheltenham Town Hall featured John Kingsley and Rev. John Burnet addressing an Anti-state-church delegation. Speakers praised voluntaryism, noted Cheltenham’s multiple churches, and discussed evangelical controversies and clergy stipends.
On January 28 in Lewes Reverend D Katterns spoke as a deputation from the Anti state church Association. It was the first public discussion of Separation of Church and State in the town. The Mechanics Institution lecture room was packed with attentive listeners and many others could not gain admission. A young man tried to refute Katteras with the old claim that the State Church is the poor man's church.
The meeting, chaired by Rev. H. Lawrence, heard strong protests against an established church. Rev. J. Turnbull and Rev. T. Timpson argued the State Church’s unscriptural character while Thomas Beggs and J. Catwell Williams warned of political consequences. John Wade linked church issues to recent Greek baths controversy. The gathering ended in high anticipation and broad approval.

Donations and tea meetings raise funds while supporters condemn expellers. Public meetings in Halifax attract 1500 to 2000 attendees with local preachers and dissenting ministers present.
