Anti state church movement discussed by Scottish deputation

A Scottish meeting reports on the 1844 conference forming the Anti state church Association with 690 reps from England Ireland Scotland and Wales. It planned to separate church from state and to appoint paid officers, with a 50 member executive committee. Edward Miall and Rev Burnet led a deputation to Kilmarnock urging religious independence from government funding and support for a voluntary principle.

A Maidstone vestry meeting held in All Saints Church planned a new church-rate. Presided by the Rev. W allence, with Earl of Romney and Capt. Scott present, the session adjourned to the western end while Mr. F. Scupamory read an estimate of repairs totaling £738 18s.
