E Tingley, road foreman for Otter valley, visited the coal metropolis for a couple of days last week. A 24 hour rain ended a dry spell and Monday and Tuesday grew chillier. Nicola Athletic Association plans a paper chase on horseback at Nicola on Saturday September 30. Members urged to attend.
Seeley Joins Valley Efforts With Wm Cooper at Nicola
Robert Seeley of New Westminster arrived in the valley last week and is working with Wm Cooper at Lower Nicola. Former hotel man Seeley, well known in coast sporting circles, is taken with the valley and may make his home here.

Robbers and unemployed men spark guard alert nationwide
In view of hold ups and robberies in the interior, police and citizens must stay vigilant. The country is overrun by unemployed men, many of a lower type, with no money and willing to take dire chances for little booty.
Mining investor from Princeton injured in horse fall near Nicola
Wm. Murray of Princeton toured the Coldwater valley to tend mining interests and visited Merritt on Tuesday. While riding near Nicola on Monday evening his horse bolted and threw him, leaving him severely shaken but unharmed otherwise. The horse disappeared into the woods and has not been located.

Government notice on bird shooting excludes upper country
Some sportsmen claim the proclamation banning ducks and geese in September covers the upper country, but officials say it applies only to Vancouver and nearby islands. The upper country remains subject to prairie chicken all season and willow grouse only until October 1.
