Excavation for the gas works proceeds after negotiations with Hall Mines conclude. Pipe laying paused due to no stock on hand as shipments from Youngstown Ohio are delayed. A large crew will be hired once the pipes arrive though installation stretches longer than expected because iron and steel shortages slow building nationwide.
The Bank of Palatin in Illinois was robbed this afternoon. Cashier I. J. Fildert was shot in the head and will die. A citizen H. H. Flaggs fought the robber, was also shot in the head but remained alive. A posse chased and captured the burglar who is jailed under guard.
Cable reports from Tivilo indicate about 400 rebels at Zamboanga refuse to recognize American authority during Gen Bates second trip. Luzon and nearby areas grow deserted while rebels camp four miles inland. Moros and Filipinos remain unfriendly and tensions may rise. Jolo remains quiet with natives friendly.

Madrid Sept 20 The Cabinet Council discussed economies to satisfy public opinion and meet national needs. Each minister to report further curtailment options while it was decided that interest on Cuban bonds could be paid by Cuba and by Spain.
The Klondike Sun reports a 72 ounce 8 grain nugget found on Eldorado claim 84 at Klondike. The nugget valued at 1168 dollars is tied to the Swanson brothers Peter George and Lewis who represented the claim. The season total yields 4 ounces besides the big nugget.
The Liverpool steamer Ises under Captain Thompson, arriving from New York, collided with the Manchester steamer Trafford while navigating the ship canal to Manchester. The Trafford sustained considerable damage to its port bow. the extent of damage to the Trafford was not reported.
London reports Charles Frohman purchased the American rights to the new Drury Lane drama Hearts are Trumps. The deal secures U.S. performance and distribution for the production.
In Belgrade on September 20 the Knezevic trial revealed a dramatic turn as Joanaan Knezevic withdrew all accusations of Radical accomplices. Before the Bible he admitted firing on former King Milan for personal revenge over unemployment, declaring the other prisoners innocent and leaving the judge to decide.
New York reports that unless General Chas F Roe chairs the Land Committee changes, the G A R will not be represented in the Dewey celebration parade.
Detroit expects a historic scene as 6,000 Odd Fellows and Rebekah sisters marched for over an hour in a grand parade, described as the largestDetroit procession since the G A R event decades earlier.
In Victoria on September 20 Odillo Cadieux of Quebec province accidentally shot himself while cleaning a trifle. He has a brother Chris Cadieux of Dawson, owner of the Ottawa hotel.
