In Rennes on September 9 1899 Alfred Dreyfus was found guilty by a five to two vote and sentenced to ten years detention. M Demange and M Labori reacted with emotion as crowds in Paris and Rennes denounced the verdict while anti Dreyfusards clashed with supporters in cafes and streets.
