Japanese workers across about 1200 canneries signed for 12 cents per fish in July and 10 cents thereafter if runs stay strong while white workers refuse to sign, lining up with Puget Sound packers for new contracts and triggering a looming dispute.
A Sunday meeting of the Socialistic Educational Club discussed Must Chinese Go. Speakers included GO. J. Clayton on workers’ views, W. Ebbs from a socialist angle, and Rev. Wm. Munroe arguing that employers bear fault for Chinese competition. He urged cosmopolitan brotherhood and condemned racial hostility.
Louis Daviaux foreman of Vian LeMoine arrives with wife and family to oversee a major Nelson contract. They will hire local workers and buy supplies locally, with bunkhouses planned for quarry stone cutters. Work is expected to start soon and may take a year or longer.

Tamblyn's Tigers led by Frank Tamblyn meet McFarland's Muffers captained by D A McFarland in a rare seniors match at the recreation grounds. Doctors will officiate, the AMA band will play, and proceeds go to the general hospital. Referee D M Garley, event starts 3 30 with enthusiastic crowds expected.
A section man named Randall on the Great Northern line had both legs severed in a collision with a passenger train at Creston Junction on Monday night. The section foreman survived with no injuries. Randall was taken to the junction for care after the crash where the train failed to stop in time.
An elderly man with a walking stick has drawn attention by speaking aloud to himself for days. He reportedly explained how easily he could cut his throat if not afraid to do so. He appears non dangerous and is said to be suffering from long term drunkenness.
The organizing committee finalizes plans for a multi-day regatta with junior four heats on Thursday and finals Monday on the city course from Lake Park to the wharf. Events include junior and senior four oared races, singles, doubles, ladies events, and sailing contests, with extensive prizes and officials named.
