Collision at Prentice Kills Five In High Speed Crash

In Jackson Illinois on August 21 a head on collision between the Chicago and Alton westbound hummer and a freight train on a siding killed five men and badly injured six. No passengers were hurt. The freight had been waiting for the flyer and the wreck likely occurred as the passenger train, traveling at high speed, struck the freight after the switch was left unobserved.

Navy declines to hear Schley court competency questions

The Navy Department released correspondence in the Schley case. Acting Secretary Duckett wrote to Admiral Schley that the court should determine its own competency questions, denying further Department review.
