The Nelson record office reports two major transfers valued at 20 300 cash. J Shuttleworth and C C Ladd sold the Keystone Fractional claim near Whiskey creek to Abraham J Davenport of Spokane for 15 300. The Cable and Tenbrank claims adjoining Keystone sold for 5 000 to A L Davenport. The Venus Athabasca Consolidation plans unite Venus, Athabasca Gold Mine with 2 900 000 capitalization and a 30 000 cash payment. A tramway will link Athabasca and Venus works advancing ore to the Nelson plant.

At the 47th annual International Typographical Union session in Birmingham on Aug 13, President Lynch urged an investigation into the printers home in Colorado Springs. The laws committee offered no recommendation on reorganization, and a proposal for autotomy of the stereotypers and electrotypers trade was defeated.
Birmingham August 13 The International Typographical convention voted 84 to 76 to submit to a referendum the preamble permitting stereotypers and electrotypers full autonomy and the power to charter and organize members of their trade.
A grand funeral in Potsdam for the Dowager Empress drew Emperor William, Empress Augusta Victoria, and King Edward VII with Queen Alexandra. The processional rites featured military bands, royal page corps, and solemn hymns as the coffin was interred in the mausoleum.

Pittsburg August 13. In the steel strike neither side gained a decisive edge as workers and owners trade moves. Strikers report gains in Pittsburg Keok ir Wheeling and Bulaire while owners hold the overall advantage. About 16 000 on general orders and 62 000 on three orders are out. Some workers find jobs in independent mills while others are idle. Officials say the Chartiers plant at Carnegie was ordered dismantled after workers refused to operate it.
Special to the Miner reports Nanaimo coal mines will close tomorrow due to a San Francisco strike. The company cites new steamers filling bunkers and shutting down as long as the disruption lasts. Coal is the town’s main industry with 7000 residents facing bleak outlook.
