The new Kettle Valley line opened with 250 passengers on a Grand Forks to Republic excursion. The 42.55 mile route crosses the Kettle River valley via Nelson and Curlew, passing Republic ores to Grand Forks smelters. Chief engineer John A. Manly praised for route. Tracy W. Two Mine Accidents Kill Miner and Manager at Mother Lode
Greenwood April 12 A fatal mine accident at the Mother Lode mine yesterday left George Johnson dead after a tamping rod caused a blasting charge to explode. Part of his head was blown off and he died about an hour later. Captain W W Howe, manager of the Waterloo Camp McKinney, was killed when something fell on his head in the shaft. Details are sparse.

Miners End Pay Dispute At Vancouver Coal Mine

Rev. T. Dewitt Talmage Dies in Washington
Noted Presbyterian clergyman Rev. T. Dewitt Talmage died at 9 o clock tonight at his Washington residence from inflammation of the brain. Miller sentenced to life for Miss Jennett murder
In Detroit on April 12 Professor Miller, the man who killed Miss Jennett, was sentenced by Judge Murphy to life in Jackson prison with hard labor. Miller entered the prison at midnight, three days after the crime, while the judge declared the sentence inadequate for the monstrous act. His wife, long an invalid, remains prostrated and critically ill at home.
