A large public meeting in Nanaimo rejects the nine hundred sixty dollars demanded by the government to cover school expenses. The gathering urges the mayor and aldermen to resist payment and to coordinate with Victoria for joint legal action if needed.
Alderman Hilbert backed overtures to Victoria amid a dispute over the legality of the cage. A test case risked Nanainy as a victim if pursued. Mr Moffett offered and withdrew a resolution. The chair urged interpreting the phrase nbin ed actions and shared the plan to split costs with other municipalities. Randall moved, Moffett seconded, resolutions sent to district members and the Provincial Secretary. Unanimously carried. The meeting adjourned with thanks to chairs and secretary.
The legislature discussed Bill No. 31 on mineral affairs and an amended assessment act. Members debated references to the mines committee, potential districts for applicability, and the possibility of appointing two additional parties with the Gold Commissioner. The motion discharged second reading and the bills were referred to the select standing committee on mines.
