An old classified style notice touts the Little Wonder Cigar Store with a broad assortment of tobaccos cigars and meerschaum pipes. It promotes best Havana cigars, boots and shoes, and shipping supplied with goods delivered across the city and vicinity. It warns strangers not to ride on the East Wellington Railway cars.
Large crowd of about 4000 radicals cheered and jeered at Birmingham meeting. F Oxton urged constitutional change, with calls for arms, while Joseph Chamberlain faced cries of traitor and was finally escorted away as police dispersed the mob amid disorder.
Juan Rivers a Mexican man in rough condition describes boarding a freight at Nacua and climbing on a car roof when an assailant demanded fare, kicked him, shot him in the head and arm, and robbed him of $7 before he jumped from the moving train. Brakemen were arrested then discharged.
In Pittsburgh on April 12 Sam Small denounced liquor dealers as lawbreakers to loud applause. Jacob Kelner, a wealthy dealer, objected, was called a liar, and ejected from the church. An intruder in a laundry escaped with many garments after being surprised by two officers at the rear yard. He joked about sharing a beer with them before slipping through the front door and vanishing.
