Mrs Tabe leads in ladies singles, with Tabe and Truss winning doubles titles and the mixed doubles going to Mr and Mrs Truss. Final results include Withers defeating Nenke 6 3 and Truss beating Vivian 6 4, von Doussa beating Dingle 6 2, and Fisher edging Truss 6 4.
The Mannum Literary Society meets next Monday amid measles outbreaks that have hit local schools. Nominations for council vacancies in Central East and West Wards were listed with a July election date for some posts. A special June 20 council meeting discussed appointing a dayman. 17 applications were received. Dancing continued until midnight with MC Con Wilson and O Grady assisting.
Mannum residents will witness the original revusical comedy Lodo produced by a local company on Thursday July 30. Set in the port of Santona on Spain’s north coast, the tale follows Jve Ternari and a web of romance among Peter Willoughby, Julores, Juanita, and Sebastian. naval officers, a battle cruiser visit, and a delayed departure to Bordeaux frame a sparkling finale with musical numbers and dance.
A well attended Murray Bridge Methodist concert at the Mannum Institute on Wednesday, June 10, raised funds for the local manse fund. The program featured a gypsy encampment with songs and yarns, comic turns by Mr. Pelton, and a second half of individual items. Participants included Mesdames Pelton Grundy Misses Venning Rawsan Messrs Pelton George Dowden Grundy and M Fike. A vote of thanks praised the artists. Rev Norman Lade thanked A Withers for hall assistance and guests were served supper by local church members.
Carnival committees in Mannum are finalising programmes for the forthcoming Back to Mannum event. The publicity committee has invited residents, a fair committee meeting is set for the Council Chamber, and a social afternoon is planned at Trewartha's Cafe to aid the tea stall.
