TRUCK SYSTEM AND WIDE-RANGING PETITIONS IN PARLIAMENT

A series of petitions from Stafford clergymen denounce the truck system as a root cause of pews and attire shortages for churchgoers. Other petitions urge removal of India trade restrictions, reform of poor laws, malt and beer duties, and distress relief. Debates touch licensing, spirits duties, West India woes, and calls for parliamentary action on colonial commerce and slave trade.
