Fall cultivation advised to conserve moisture and control weeds

Farmers in the Prairie Provinces are urged to use shallow fall cultivation after harvest to destroy annual weeds such as wild mustard and pigweed, kill plants before frost, and preserve soil moisture. The practice also helps control Russian thistle, stinkweed, and perennial weeds while reducing pest vigor and protecting soil cover for next year’s crop.
