Mr and Mrs Lloyd Horner and family of Winnipeg visited with Mr and Mrs J W Horner. Local and general cor reflects social visits among families and community members at a Winnipeg area.
A pleasant evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Calvin Morley Riding Mountain featured Miss Carolyn Orley as guest of honor. Mrs George McKinnon left Justin Archibald and Mrs R Downey hosted with visits, corsages, quizzes, singing, and a decorated wagon procession by Lisa Gay Morley and Ronnie Jefford. Jean Allan read a special poem for the guest of honor, gifts were admired and lunch served.
Murray Collier and Don Cardinal of Port Arthur Ontario visited with Mr. and Mrs W J Collier. Mrs A McKean hosted a tea in honor of Mr and Mrs Wilbur McKean Friday afternoon with help from Mrs J W Horner. Mr and Mrs E J Spalding traveled to Winnipeg to see his sister Mrs A Cunningham who had surgery at Winnipeg General Hospital. Mrs G Reynolds and Mrs C A Geddes attend United Church W A/Fellowship Camp with WMS at Prairie Christian Training Centre Fort Qu Appelle Saskatchewan.
The Board of Management met at the G. Long home on September 14 with Rev. C. A. Geddes presiding. Officers elected include Superintendent G Long and secretary Miss E Reynolds. New nominating committee member Mrs. Chas Armitage joins. Donations pledged to Stewards and United College Extension Fund. Plan includes Teacher Workshops and library book purchases.
The United W A M S met in church classrooms on regular date with Mrs A Long opening. Mrs O Patterson and Mrs G Reynolds led worship on Fellow Workers With God. New study book Africa Disturbed introduced. Bazaar planned for November 21. Tea served by Mrs R McCaw and Mrs D Russell.
A six week vaccination program will be conducted in all Virden Health Unit area schools. The measures target children whose last vaccination was five or more years ago.
Miniata Merry Stitchers 4 H club re organized at Community Centre with Miss Maxine English home economist AG guest speaker. Nine new girls enrolled bringing membership to 21. Leaders and officers elected with Wendy Currie as president and meetings set for alternate Fridays 4 to 5 45 p.m.
Community weekend visits from Brandon, Calgary, and The Pas noted along with a new 4 H Club officers Faye Lelond Margaret Lelond Lois Lelond and Joan Lelond. W H Kirton obituary details his life from Pickering Ontario to Brandon nursing home with funeral at Arrow River United Church.
