The U C W held a general meeting September 2 in church classrooms with 14 members present. Mrs Wes McKenzie led worship from the 23rd Psalm and Mrs A Armitage chaired. The program committee named Mrs Wes Leland convenor and added Mr Dave Russell as a member.
The afternoon unit of the U. CW. met at Mrs. G Long's home on Thursday September 16 with nine members present. The session opened with a prayer by president Mrs. F Rowan and readings, a worship titled Courage led by Mrs. A Hill, and discussion of United Church Women relations to the church budget. Reports covered general meeting in September, membership by Mrs. McKean, friendship by Mrs. Hill, and an invitation from Mrs. Douglas for the October 21 gathering.
Manitoba education minister invites parents to join a province wide series of 25 half hour telecasts starting September 11 to support teachers of new mathematics courses for grades 4 to 6 and 8 and 9. Dr Bernard Noonan will present the programs with audience questions featured every sixth week.
Susanna Dot Neelands born 1879 Winnipeg moved to Oak River Hamio ta later Vancouver where she joined Chown Memorial United. Her sudden death September 1 prompted memorial at Chown United and funeral at Hamiota United Church with interment in family plot. Survived by sisters Lila Reynolds Miniota Jessie Reynolds Vancouver and brother Rupert London.
Judy Bryant of Winnipeg visited relatives the Bryant family in Miniota. Regina visitors Doug Findlay and his wife called on the Gilberts Curry. George Dibblee attended a 50th Anniversary Reunion in Sherbrooke QC. Local students pursue studies at Brandon College and University of Manitoba. Sunday School and Rally Day events featured instructors, officers, and awards.
Cathy Clark secures position at the Royal Bank starting September 16. Winnipeg General Hospital welcomes Noreen, a Brandon School of Nursing graduate. Crandall Sunday School holds annual meeting approving teachers and leaders for the new year. Departure of Mr. R. Kitz after twelve years noted. Rev Bowins to interview Mrs. Lawrence for Superintendent.
Mr and Mrs Lecis Wiggins and Mrs William Sutherland of Winnipeg visited the Lloyd Wiggins family and Mrs John Wiggins over the weekend. Mrs Donald Sutherland went to Regina for a short visit. Alex Evans called on local families while renewing acquaintances at Miniota and Arrow River. The Cleggs hosted and hosted guests from Minnedosa and Birtle.
A miscellaneous shower for Norma White, bride to be of Sept 25, was held Sept 15 at Crandall Church. Corsages were given to Norma and her mother Mrs. Gordon White and to the groom elect mother Mrs. Jock Shoemaker. A make believe patient on a stretcher delivered gifts as Mrs. Don Lee spoke. Norma thanked guests and invited visits to Calgary after the wedding. A sing song followed and lunch was served.
Winners Wendy Green and Sherry Pierce received dolls in a raffle to support the Birtle Senior Citizens Lodge. Community notes include Betty Evans and Helen Ann Grainger holiday visits, Patsy Sterling and Carol Ann Gies away at Winnipeg colleges, and visitors at Beulah and Hamberg homes. A Reston teacher Mrs Harriet Grace Bullock died. funeral held in Portage la Prairie with Rev. Bowman. Survivors include husband Stanley and children Garry, Rodney, and Glenda. Gail Pierce plans nursing in Souris.
Sylvia Lillian Mary Norman died on September 6 1965 at Princess Elizabeth Hospital aged 54 wife of Donovan E E Norman of 485 Radford Street. Funeral 1:00 p.m. Thomson Funeral Chapels Broadway officiated by Rev Father R F Shepherd interment St Johns Cathedral Cemetery. Born Birtle Manitoba daughter of George Armstrong Beulah Manitoba survived by husband two sons George and Brian and brother E T Armstrong of St James.
