Farm Notes advises producers to inspect last year’s grain for beetles, with only rusty beetles needing fumigation. Foreign beetles don’t require spraying. just move the grain. Fall is best for systemic insecticides to control heel fly grub in cattle, with products and application rates listed and a final date of November 30 for systemic use.
The ninth regular meeting of the Village of Hamiota council, chaired by Mayor Harold W. McLaren, covered revenue and expenses from the swimming pool showing a projected 1978 deficit of 3394.26. Building permits were issued, Cedar Avenue declared grant in aid with 50/50 cost share, and revisions to 1979 assessment rolls were approved. Council also bought a Tandem Easy Striper, authorized grain-bin display with co op, and set tax notices and payments. The September 14 special meeting authorized attendance at the Urban Association meeting in Brandon and underwrote half the Hall rent for Welcome Night, with adjournment at 5 03 pm.
Mrs. C. Ann Steele Fraser died at King Edward Hospital on August 31 1978. Born February 4 1885 in Hamiota she taught there and in Portage la Prairie after Normal School. She married Chas Steele in 1924. widowed in 1929, moved to Winnipeg. Funeral September 6 Campbell's Chapel Hamiota officiated by Rev Herb Lynas. Survived by brother J Moss Fraser and Jane McPherson Fraser. predeceased by four siblings. Her home welcomed youths away from home.
