Four ships bring silk to Vancouver in record coast movement

Four ships arrive within a week at Vancouver with silk from the Orient valued at over 20 million dollars for transshipment to New This. The Canada Colonization Association reports 401 families settled on 97,944 acres in six months of 1927. Lethbridge Commercial Airways makes its first flight on August 7 between High River and Lethbridge under Jock Palmer with plans for Lethbridge to Waterton Lakes air service. The muskrat leads furs in value due to rising prices. Canadian Pacific plans a Midland Port McNicoll line, with Midland parades celebrating the project. Irene Castle visits the Algonquin hotel with her daughter.

Local Marriage and Rural Council Notes

The marriage occurred in Winnipex between Alfred Aspinwall and Miss Mary Neault. The Rural council met in Miniota. John Spalding was named secretary treasurer temporarily. Miss Marion Henderson left to study music in Whitby Ontario, accompanied by her mother to Winnipeg. Rural Credits society directors appointed C Ellerington as temporary secretary treasurer.

Miss Bessie Bonner left on Saturday for Makarof Man to assume charge of grade two and three in a recently opened room created by the trustees of the local school district.

Obituary for Eliza Grace Cowling

Eliza Grace Cowling daughter of Mr and Mrs Dan Cowling died after an accident on Monday September 5. A piece of iron struck her eye and penetrated the skull during corn cutting for silo. She was 4 years 10 months and 23 days old. Funeral by Rev W T Brady at Crandall cemetery followed by large attendance and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

Card of Thanks for McLeod Family

Mr and Mrs D Cowling and family thank friends for kindnesses and floral tributes in bereavement. Mrs Roderick McLeod died Friday at Pincher Creek Alberta, former Miniota resident. The McLeod business is now owned by J D Forsyth and he built the W L Hodnett store.
