Local Couple Celebrates Twenty Fifth Wedding Anniversary

Local and general congratulations are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Curry who celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary during the past week. Miss Heather Spalding has commenced teaching Grade One in McAuley for the coming term. We wish her lots of success in her new job.

Silver Wedding Honors Roy Currie and family in Glenlochar

Silver wedding celebration on Sept 4 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Armitage honored Mr. and Mrs. Roy Currie with a sing along led by Mrs. A Armitage and Mrs. W Potter. A silver rose bowl and candle holders were presented by Mrs. J Collier. The Curries cut the special wedding cake and a dainty lunch followed. Iris Leland and Elaine Curry of Winnipeg visited over Labor Day. Sept meeting of the Minora W I set for Sept 14 at 2 30 with guest speaker Mrs. J C Cory. Roll Call a prepared CA C item. Leland won the Elizabeth Bursary for 200 and the Agents Association Bursary for 250.

U C W Meeting and Social Highlights Around Leland Family

The U C W held a church meeting with Mrs. Doug Leland presiding. Reports covered Vacation School earnings and the Roof Top Schools project in Hong Kong. A graduation and ordination for Miss Willie de Tillians was noted, with thanks given to contributors. Social events followed including a Friday hall shower for Jim and Norma Clegg, with music by Gordon Leland and Mrs. Ken Mitchell.

The Manitoba Good Roads Association reports ongoing competitions among member municipalities. Judges travel about 17 000 miles yearly to assess highway maintenance, beautification, farm home grounds, and related projects across the province.

Reminder notices for 1963 seed orders shelterbelts and ram rental

A Manitoba Agriculture notice urges orders for grass seed under the Soil Conservation Plan with eight mixtures, $17 per ten acres, due October 30, and reminders to order trees for shelterbelts from Indian Head. It also says the department will rent a ram for commercial sheep up to fifty head at $8 per year with fall orders due by October 1, and emphasizes continued cultivation to eradicate Canada thistle on summer fallow.

United College Names Assistant Registrar Diane Burns

Miss Diane Burns has been appointed Assistant Registrar at United College. A Winnipeg native, she attended Tech Voc High School, earned a B.A. from the University of Manitoba, and gained business experience with Bristol Aero Engines and Bunge Corporation Ltd.

Birdtail River School Division Meeting Minutes Shoal Lake 1962

Meeting of Birdtail River School Division No 38 held at Shoal Lake on August 29 1962 with trustees Fulton Selby Stimpson Gamey Reynolds Fraser and Hunter present along with Mr Pomshichuk of Selsgirth. Correspondence listed on insurance orders and grants from Osler Hammond Nanton USTM MACRO Pratt Lindgren and Associates and Department of Education. The minutes of August 25 were approved and six concrete incinerators were ordered at 65 each from Perma Crete with 5 discount for Hamiota Kenton Miniota Birtle Shoal Lake and Strathclair. Gwen Bell to be paid 20 for extra subject in April 1962. Van routes accepted for Ray Unsworth Route 19 Kyler Drake Route 20 Garth Strachan James Morison Route 21. Financial statement No 8/62 approved for payment. Adjourned to principals meeting at Birtle Collegiate September 6 at 8 pm.
