Mr and Mrs Alex McKeen came back from a visit to Vancouver and other western points. The article notes local sights including a robin and meadow lark, and mentions the 1st Company Miniota Girl Guides selling Poppies on Saturday November 9 to support returned soldiers unable to work.
Fred Franklin, session foreman at Miniota, won a $15 prize for the best visible new garden on the Brandon division of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The garden, once a couch grass plot, was transformed into a prize winner, promising many more prizes to come.
The 1st Miniota Company of Girl Guides held a Halloween party at the school on Thursday night with the 27nd Company from United Church as guests. Games, contests and a Ghost Chamber visit delighted both troops. A fine lunch was served by the hosts before dismissal.
Time nears the nomination period set for November 19 in the third Tuesday meeting. Retiring School Trustees Ward 11 Robert T. Western Manitoba Music Festival planners met in Hamiota on Friday night to confirm a May 23 and 24, 1930 festival. Crandall members proposed moving Cates to May 22–23 but were not approved. Shoal Lake seeks representation to spur a new organization. Thessiiabus distribution is planned through executives. A stringed-instrument teacher for Crandall may be hired, and adjudicators will be handled by a dedicated committee.
