At the annual meeting in Winnipeg last week Manitoba Pool Elevators Ltd reported a year end net surplus of 728000 dollars.
Mrs Watts is visiting with Mr and Mrs C Watts near Po. This brief note records a social visit and the attendees in a small community context.
Mesdarres Veale Saunderson and Weller of Brardon called on the Hodsett home last week. Mr and Mrs J H McIntosh spent the weekend with relatives at Treberne and returned with Mrs Shewlett. She will visit for a few days with her brother J H McIntosh.
Fall and Winter underwear for boys offered with Silver Fleece and Brushed Cotton combinations and Watsons styles in stock at low prices. Also notes Mos A. Spencer hosted Holy Trinity Vestry, presenting a mahogany mantel clock to Miss Jean Henderson. Government wage subsidies offered to farmers, and a series of Beulah Anglican Bazaar and Girl Guide events scheduled from 23 to 29 with a Poppy Campaign in November.
The issue notes advertising space limits and invites orders with savings on reading matter. It lists nomination day for rural councillors and school trustees, followed by a school trustees gathering at Miniota school where prizes were won and W Lindsay spoke on education.
The Min iota United church anniversary services concluded on Tuesday with a fowl supper and concert. The supper drew a large crowd with ample viands and on Wednesday the ladies served a nice dinner, attracting another good turnout.
Betty Vradenburgh and Dorothy Woods led a piano duet while Oak Lake participants plus Shoal Lake quartets and trios performed with strings and vocals. R. Evnett, L. Reaman, and Rev. G A McMillan chaired. A supper raised just over 100 dollars as discussion turns to a possible open air rink for next winter and funding needs for a proposed 1939 40 rink.
H G L Strange suggests growers can cut costs by planting a seed field themselves. He advises selecting 5 to 10 acres of best summer fallow, sowing with high quality Registered or Certified seed, protecting, harvesting, threshing, and binning carefully to yield seed for large future acreage.
