Earl Grey, donor of football's Grey Cup, recommended preserving the Plains of Abraham battlefield as a national historic site.
Notice lists the Annual Supper at Isabella United Church to be held at the Community Centre with prices 75c for adults and 40c for children under 14, followed by a variety concert. Mr and Mrs S Lawn plan to move to Virden on Friday October 16, with 5 pm start for supper and later events. Mrs Ida Todd traveled to visit relatives in Creston after a trip to Aniker Hamiota Brandon and South.
Mrs. E Barnes visits Winnipeg while Mrs Bolton receives care at Hamiota Hospital. Mr Bolton shows a friendly sales tilt at the hospital. Leonard Lipscomb represents Avon Cosmetics in Deere Lodge Hospital. Territories open in Miniota for the past two weeks. Mrs Ipscomb and Walter traveled to Winnipeg again on Saturday.
Local items include visits by Roy Leland and Guy Murphy to relatives in Manitoba. Mrs Watts had an appendectomy in Birtle Hospital. Manitoba natural gas reached homes easing the cold spell. A wedding in Mapleton united John Berton Still and Marilyn Begg with a reception in Clandeboye. The Women's Institute meets October 9 with C R Hopper speaking on sugar. The 4 H Sewing Club plans a variety concert to fund a second electric sewing machine and welcomes two new members.
Mrs J Foster hosted Holy Trinity W.A. meeting with Mrs M iCurry presiding. They agreed to buy a woollen blanket for northern missions and send Christmas gifts to The Pas for north distribution. A cash donation for McKay School at Dauphin was approved. Bazaar slated for November 14 and church cleaning on October 23.
The United Church school held its Rally Day service on September 27 with G Long leading worship. Jack Spalding gave responsive readings, Ann Armitage and Barbara Craig read scriptures, and Diane Williams offered prayers.
The Arrow River WMS and W.A. met October 1 with 15 members and 2 visitors. Reports covered the Angola study, temperance, and mission topics, with donations for the third quarter project. A funeral for John Bell of Blaris District occurred in Hamiota. Fred Hill of Walkerton visits relatives. Scott Bateman of Winnipeg toured the W.T. home enroute to Minnedosa.
