Lyon Sees Agriculture Driving Manitoba Economy at Congress
Premier Sterling Lyon told 2,000 delegates from 55 countries at the 6th International Cereal and Bread Congress in Winnipeg that Manitoba farms led by hard working families are a major productive force. He praised the region's agrarian heritage, the grain capital status of Winnipeg, and the province’s strong agricultural research and institutions. He urged delegates to defend independent farming within North America’s market system. The speech highlighted Winnipeg’s role as a hub for grain companies, grain boards, and agricultural research. Meanwhile Headingley inmates from the Manitoba School Volunteer Program built a playground at Portage la Prairie, with nine inmates volunteering five days a week, contributing to community projects.
