The World's Series baseball games begin Wednesday featuring the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees in the field. A local pumpkin weigh-in fundraiser raised 8 dollars from 16 participants and weighed 33 pounds 7 ounces, with four close guesses recorded by residents.
Classified listings show Penman's Nu-Cut fleece suits at 150 dollars each and Stanfield ribbed wool combos at 2.75 per suit from Walled Stores in Miniota. Local events note Brandon teachers convention, October 10 Thanksgiving holiday, Girl Guide meeting at Mrs Bonner, and a Scotian church meeting about reorganizing Oakner area United churches.
Mrs R M Oliver hosted a W A meeting with ten members, deciding no fall activities, focus on the bazaar, and lunch served. A Y P A conference in Decker United church drew many youths from District 2, Birtle Presbytery, with Pauline Tennant elected president and Molly Stalker secretary treasurer. A Minita New Rink committee fair and dance yielded strong business at side-shows. Rural council debated land leases, park conveyance, school land transfers, and tax sale plans for December 15 1938. adjourned to Court of Revision on November 2.
Mrs M T Hooper has given the municipality a tract of lands of about 80 or 90 acres on the west side of Hooper's Lake to establish a public park for all time. The gift enables plans for improvements including a possible beach and golf course nearby. Citizens express gratitude for the generous donation.
Fifteen years earlier Miss A Aiken moved to Winnipeg. Jack Rowan and Frank Evans went to continue studies at the university. The Stewart house was bought by W D Berwick and the Jarvis house by Mrs B Reveley from Hodnett and Spalding.
