Local notes report visits and events in Manitoba communities

Mr and Mrs W J Collier visited in Winnipeg and Kenora last week. Donald Gurr underwent appendicitis surgery at Hamiota Hospital and is recovering well. Ellerington families and Miss Anne Ellerington were in Ninette. her condition is very serious. Wayne returned home with his family. United Church ladies held a bazaar and tea at the Community Centre realizing 180.82. Miniota Merry Stitchers met at Mrs A M Hanlin’s home for a social and lunch. The United Church W A and M S will meet Nov 21 at 2 pm to learn the Mystery Mothers identity with the CGT in attendance. E J Spalding attended the Manitoba Good Roads Association convention in Winnipeg and accepted the McKinney Shield for best kept village. Mrs J Lees of New Westminster BC visited relatives and returned home with Alex Mackean. Miniota community promotes pride with a home ground competition. Wade trophy earned previously for Good Roads. Miniota Beef Calf Club reorganized with Murray Peel president and Jim Cole secretary treasurer. ten members enrolled. M Deveson spoke on projects and leadership for the club. Gail Ischell won the oratorical contest at Shoal Lake on Friday, speaking on The St. Lawrence Seaway. she advances to the area contest at Oak Lake Nov 29 representing Shoal Lake Inspectoral Division.

In Memorium Grainger Winnipeg Grenadiers Death Osaka 1944

Memorial note honors Cpl W A Grainger of the Winnipeg Grenadiers who died in Osaka Japan on November 23 1944. The Wynona Ladies Community Group hosts a Variety Concert at Miniota Community Centre on Tuesday November 26 at 8 pm. Admission 35 cents for children 8 to 16 and 50 cents for adults.

Canada Savings Bonds bolster Manitobans savings faith

Authorities note Manitobans hold about half of past eleven year bonds as Canada Savings Bonds sales reach nationwide totals of over 5.74 billion with 11.68 million transactions. Campaign official Seys William Dunlop cites risk free interest bearing bonds as a major saving tool across the province and country. The report also lists W I notes and the 1959 program committee appointments in Manitoba.

Birth of Lorie Dawn Spicer in Winnipeg

A daughter, Lorie Dawn, was born to Mr. and Mrs. L Spicer of Winnipeg on November 14 at St Boni face Hospital. The mother is Sheila Harlin of Miniota.

Explorers Initiation Honors For First Through Third Years

The Explorer Group hosted mothers on Wednesday for initiation ceremonies. Diane Williams presided as Third Year members explained the emblem, and First Year girls recited the Purpose. First Year red stars were awarded to Marilyn Bruce Colleen Mossop Shona Leland Pat Woods and Beth Armitage. Dale Kostak Wendy Curry also received first year recognition. Second Year blue stars went to Judy Bryant Bev Bryant Anne Armitage and Barbara Craig. Third Year gold stars were awarded to Linda Leland Doreen Sparks Linda Mossop Doreen Topps Linda Armitage Cathie Hanlin Diane Williams and Donna Bryant.
