Mr and Mrs H Beard and family of Melville visited friends and relatives in the district over the weekend. Misses M Jean Henderson and M Dart of Winnipeg and Bliss M Copway of Neepawa spent the weekend at their homes in town.
A number of applications were received to rent the Virden auditorium and at a special town council meeting the bid from Tom Laidman of Birtle was accepted. He plans to install a talkie outfit in Virden within two weeks.
Miniota school has 53 pupils across three grades under one teacher. The board argues against hiring another instructor due to cost, but residents expect action to ensure proper education and prevent spreading pupils to an already burdened teacher.
Trustees report that after consulting the Department of Education the school board agreed to annual salary increases for the supervisor until a set maximum, with $75 this year split 50 50 between the department and the board. The change aims to improve continuous oversight rather than infrequent, sporadic visits.
