Miss L. Chalmers visited Brandon last week while Dr. R. K. Chalmers attended a medical convention in Winepegel. A heavy rain last Thursday benefits crops gardens and pastures. Mrs. McKay and Mrs F. L. Spencer recover from illness. The Bell Boys orchestra danced in town Thursday with a fair crowd enjoying music and interval entertainment.
Gladys Henderson placed second in senior piano solo. Ford Wiggins finished fourth in bays over 15. Bernice Wiggins won girls age 16 20 high voice solo. Edna Murdock and Olive Smith won first in voices duet at Brendos Musical Festival last week. At the Minnesota Women’s Institute meeting, roll call prompted a plant slip exchange. A dental clinic was arranged under the organization, and Mrs. R. Rollins presented an Interior Decoration paper. Mrs. Oliver was named delegate to the Winnipeg provincial convention with Mrs. Berwick as alternate. Lunch and social time followed. next meeting set for Thursday June 17.
IW THE GROCETERIA offers ground coffee 30 35 and 40 cents a pound and dried goods like peas 25 cents and evaporated apples 28 cents for two pounds United States Ltd Miniota. Mrs F L Evans of Winnipeg visited town last week and other residents from Winnipeg and Kamloops were seen visiting relatives and working in the district.
Local notices list events including a rally at Von's and a Drema Festival at Municipal High School. A Field Day at Isabella C.N. is planned with an excursion to Winnipeg. A memorial service is announced for Miniets with a church event led by Rev JW Clarke.
Northern Section league games scheduled for June to May include matches between Miniota Hamiota Isabella Shoal Lake and intersections to be arranged next week. Magistrate J Fleming heard William Cowan and Henry Cusack charged under liquor laws. Cowan pleaded guilty to manufacturing liquor and paid fines or served three months. sentence waived. Cusack pled guilty to possessing illegal liquor and got six months for a second offense. concurrent possibility noted. Crown prosecutor Fred C Bennett along with Inspectors Rowe Payfield and Tollay presented evidence.
The Minsota School Board met with all members present. The auditor's report is to remain open for inspection at the Secretary's office. Home and School asked Isabella school not be reduced to three rooms to avoid crowding. Route 4 pay cut to 1.96 a day from May 17. Route 7 pay up 25 cents from April 19. Field Day set for June 4 at Isabella. Teachers to be re engaged per contracts with possible 10 cut if crop conditions fail from Jan 1 to Jun 30, 1938. Total payments 2380.71 approved. Next meeting on call of the chair.
Bryans visited Winnipeg last week for the North and South Baseball League event held at Kenton on Muanilay. Bill Wythe was injured near Virden after an entanglement with barbed wire, requiring stitches. A large crowd enjoyed Thursday’s picture show featuring Fighting Thro’ with Ken Maynard Tarzan and other acts. The week’s program promises Klondike and a brain surgery tale ending with a uplifting twist, plus a Swiss of other acts including Broncho busting and motorbike racing with a head-on locomotive crash.
Isabella Chaon Pratt and others spent the weekend at home while H Brisbin and Jack visited Carberry. Garland and Winni pes on the weekend with Craik and Norse. Gladstone and Shoal Lake hosts noted. Mintota league opener saw a 97 victory. Hamiota game ended 5 to. The Sunshine GST group led by Mel Brisbin prepared a Cook Book due for sale end of week at two cents. orders through group members.
