Local notes and visits mark Winnipeg area week end

Local residents including Bill Spalding and Mrs Rankin visited in town. Manitoba farmers harvest about 750000 tons of wild hay annually. Victoria Day is a Dominion holiday with stores closed. Delays and schedule changes noted for Miniota and Elkhorn trips. Administrative reports approved for the Miniota school board and teacher salaries set for the coming year. Next board meeting scheduled for June 21 in Miniota.

McIntosh Family Mourns Loss In Hamiota Death

Mr H A McIntosh of Hamiota died on Tuesday after an extended illness. Sympathy extended to Mr H McIntosh of Miniota and family. Mr and Mrs J H McIntosh attended the funeral services held Thursday in Hamiota and Rapid City where burial occurred.

Miniota Meeting Discusses Leafy Spurge Control

Council representatives met in Mirtle to plan a larger unit to curb Leafy Spurge spreading in alarming proportions. Dr. Campbell, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Whiteman, and Mr. Tinline spoke on grasshopper issues and other farm matters.

School Board OKs Glenlochar teaching engagement

A Minisota municipal school board meeting Friday presided by Wm. Lindsay approved routine items and passed a resolution offering Mrs. E. Hall a teaching engagement at Glenlochar for the year 1939-49.

Obituary for Margaret Ringland Stowe Pioneer Citizen

Margaret Ringland Stowe aged 73 years 8 months 14 days died after illness in Miniota. She native of Hamilton Ontario married G R Stowe in October 1884 and lived in Muskoka district before settling in Miniota in 1888 where she helped neighbors and family. Funeral Thursday at Miniota United Church officiated by Revs McMillan and Bowman. burial in Miniota cemetery. Survived by three daughters Mrs A McDonald Morse Sask Mrs DG McDonald Beulah and Mrs W Boulton Beulan three sons John Harry Miniota and Robert G Birtle one sister Mrs Rhinehart Flint Michigan and two brothers Robert Lone Rock and John Miniota.

Manitoba Stock Shipments Shift to Packing Plants

Since trucking began in Manitoba, direct shipments to packing plants rose. By 1931 Manitoba origin sales to packers were calves 3.1 percent, other cattle 3 percent, hogs 25.5 percent, sheep and lambs 7.5 percent. By 1938 those figures climbed to calves 44.9 percent, other cattle 26.9 percent, hogs 71.6 percent, sheep and lambs 69.1 percent.
