A daughter Tracy Elinor was born to Mrs Phyllis Cosgrove of Oakner at Hamiota District Hospital on May 12 at 10 05 p.m. She weighs 6 pounds 5 3 4 ounces and is 20 1 2 inches long. She has a sister Kelly and grandparents Mr and Mrs Charlie Knight of Oakner. Great grandparents are Mr and Mrs Harry Knight of Hamiota. The staff presented Tracy with a Manitoba Centennial spoon in honor of Manitoba's Birthday.
Trustees of Birdtail River School Division No. 38 met at Shoal Lake on May 14 1970 at 8:00 p.m. Discussions covered regional vocational schooling Brandon No. 40 hearing, office space, insurance, Isabella property, New School and property, Start Head Start St Lazare, Ken ton lighting, principal's conference. Minutes from April 30 adopted and various motions approved including relocation of the division office to Crandall, financials, committee reports, staff payments adjustments, and construction progress payments. Meeting adjourned to May 28 1970. Addendum notes a Centennial float for division parades.
Rivers hosts the Birtle District Women's Institute convention with 189 delegates and members May 4. Co-hostess Kirkham's Bridge. Mrs. R Birch opens the gathering as the district marks Manitoba's centennial and the WI's 60th anniversary.
Mrs Bob Gawne and Kelly visit Fort Churchill with Miss Phyllis Rankin of Winnipeg while Mrs Arthur visits family on the farm. Granddaughter Kathy graduates in Brandon. Visitors include Geo Gardham and family from Arrow River, Ann Kreager of Brandon, and extended kin from Saskatoon Prince Albert and Portage la Prairie. A birthday cake was enjoyed at the residence.
