At the Birtle District WI convention held at Rivers on May 12 officers were elected. President Mrs E V Fulton first vice president Mrs L Gray Kirkland Bridge second vice president Mrs A D Rutherford Hamiota secretary treasurer appointed Mrs Roy Leland Miniota. Others named include Mrs C W Ell lerington Miniota Mrs A Moffat Strathclair Mrs Powers Oak River Mrs Kirkpatrick Cardale Mrs D A MacKay Kenton Mrs J Wiltshire Beulah Mrs J Finkbeiner Isabella Mrs G Short Rivers Mrs Miller Erickson auditor R E Clegg Arrow River.
The Birtle 75th Anniversary Committee requests cooperation from residents and descendants to share names and addresses of district pioneers born before 1900. Submit submissions to Mrs. E. V. Fulton at Box 212, Birtle.
In MacLean's June Callwood profile, Maurice Richard is depicted as a gentle family man haunted by the prospect of quitting hockey. He says he can barely sleep, fears growing old, and worries about a life without hockey, counting each day to play and admitting loneliness once the game ends.
The Beaver Patrol won the second Honor Patrol Competition held April 29. Wolves Cats and Cobra followed. On May 6 Beaver Patrol received the Flag to keep for eight weeks and each member got a copy of The Scouts How To Do Book. Bill Armitage and John Stowe joined the brotherhood. four trainees earned Bronze Training Course certificates at Ri vers Air Training Centre in January.
The C G S T held its annual Mother and Daughter Banquet at United Church with forty two attendees. Reverend Marguerite Miller spoke on applying C G I T aims to daily life. Joan Peel gave the valedictory and Heather Spalding received graduation certificates. Lin da Leland performed piano, gifts were exchanged, and thanks extended to organizers.
Miniota Community Centre annual meeting presided by Keith Armitage reports show rink, entertainment and grounds progress. Rinks and picnics expand. Family Parties and 4-H Sewing Club noted. membership reduced to $1. gas installation planned. new board elected including Roy Leland and Robert Bonner.
